WASHINGTON, D.C. – Since the day President Trump was elected, congressional Democrats have made it their mission to impeach this President, careening from one baseless theory to another in a disgraceful attempt to reverse the results of the 2016 election.

Today, without any input from the minority party, and without a single Republican in support, Speaker Pelosi brought to the House floor a hyper-partisan resolution to “affirm” the ongoing and defective impeachment inquiry, which has been carried out behind closed doors, through selective and unethical leaks, without any pretense of fairness, or even the most elementary due process protections.

The American people deserve a fair and transparent process, but today’s resolution is nothing more than a partisan attempt to retroactively ratify a patently unfair and tainted process that deviates from the precedents set in 1974 and 1998. It further divides an already-divided nation and distracts from the real work that needs to be done.

Regardless of how one feels about the President – whether you want him to be impeached or not – you cannot support this process. It is not transparent. It is not bipartisan. It is not fair.
