Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) was interviewed this morning by WVLK’s Jack Pattie.  Congressman Barr shared his reaction to President Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“I am extremely impressed with this nomination. Judge Gorsuch has exemplary and superb credentials and background – both academic credentials and his professional experience both as a lawyer and a judge.  Obviously, he is committed to a judicial philosophy of originalism.  He will faithfully apply the Constitution and uphold the rule of law.  I think this is an excellent pick…. He has demonstrated as a proven originalist on the Court of Appeals that he is a worthy successor to Justice Scalia.”

Congressman Barr also spoke about the President’s Executive Order to temporarily pause refugee programs, as well as new immigration from seven nations designated by the Obama Administration as countries of concern for terrorism:

“In general, it makes simple, common sense to review our vetting of these refugees because intelligence officials and the FBI have communicated very clearly to the Congress and the American people that we do not have sufficient information about these individuals… The bottom line is that we are going to be exercising congressional oversight over this, but this is common sense, this is in the national security interest of the country to take a temporary pause to take a look at this program.  We are going to work with Kentucky Refugee Ministries to make sure there are not any unwarranted inconveniences for individuals who do not pose a threat to our national security.”
