Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) will serve on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and Nonproliferation. Late last month, Congressman Barr was selected to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. In 2020, Congressman Barr led the House China Task Force (CTF), which examined the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and the neglect of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Congressman Barr was the Co-Chairman of the CTF Subgroup on Competitiveness and the Subgroup on Economics and Energy.
“This Subcommittee selection is an opportunity to craft policies to confront the strategic threat of the Chinese Communist Party and build on the work of the China Task Force,” said Congressman Barr. “Additionally, I will work to promote policies to foster stronger economic and diplomatic relationships in the region to counter China.”
“I am excited to welcome Congressman Andy Barr to the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia and Nonproliferation,” said Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “His leadership on the China Task Force last year makes him a great addition to serve on this important subcommittee and I look forward to continue working with him.”
Congressman Barr is a longtime Member of the House Financial Services Committee and in that capacity was a proponent of using soft power to counter threats around the world. Congressman Barr led the Otto Wambier Sanctions Act against North Korea to passage in December of 2019. These were the toughest sanctions ever imposed on North Korea.
