Barr Expresses Concern About Job Losses in Bourbon County

Joy Global Closing in Millersburg is the Latest Casualty in the President’s War on Coal

March 5, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Barr expressed deep concern today regarding news that Joy Global, a manufacturer and supplier of underground mining equipment, will stop manufacturing at its Millersburg, Kentucky plant this October due to the continued struggles of Kentucky’s coal industry.

“Visiting with my constituents in Nicholas County last week, I learned that the Obama Administration’s War on Coal has claimed its latest victims.  I offer my greatest sympathy to the workers and families who will be affected by the announced transfer of operations and manufacturing activity away from Joy Global’s plant in Bourbon County,” said Barr.

“The elimination of manufacturing at this facility underscores the far-reaching human costs of short-sighted and ill-considered overregulation by the Obama Administration,” he continued

“Now, more than ever, it’s time for Congress to pass the REINS Act, legislation I have co-sponsored, which would prevent the Administration from implementing new regulations that would have significant economic impact without Congressional approval.  Kentucky families deserve this additional check and balance on a runaway bureaucracy, which appears to value its radical agenda over people.”
