Lexington, Ky – Representative Andy Barr (KY-06) announced that nearly $10 million in grants will be going to airports in Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP). This funding was appropriated by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which Rep. Barr voted to pass recently in Congress.

“Aviation has been impacted as much as any industry in America as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will strengthen Sixth District airports and ensure that they are ready once we defeat this virus to reenergize commercial aviation in Kentucky and throughout the nation. Congress must ensure that the government-imposed shutdown of our economy designed to flatten the COVID-19 curve doesn’t flatten our economy along with it. That is why this funding is so crucial, as is the funding for the Payment Protection Program for small businesses and the Economic Impact Payments for distressed workers and families, which were also included in this package.”

“I would like to extend my appreciation to Congressman Barr for his support of the CARES Act legislation and its provisions for our airport and fellow airports throughout the country,” Blue Grass Airport (LEX) Executive Director Eric Frankl said. “From his first day on the job, Congressman Barr has always been an advocate for Blue Grass Airport, and he continues to surpass our expectations to ensure central Kentucky’s air transportation needs are met. We are grateful to receive this critical funding so that we can maintain airport operations during this extremely challenging time.”
