Estill County, KY — Today, U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06) announced $1.2 million in federal funding for critical water infrastructure improvements in Estill County, secured through the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill recently passed by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump. The funding will be directed at the Estill County Water District Phase 12 Water System Improvements Project, with funds awarded to the Estill County Fiscal Court.
This project represents a continuation of Estill County Water District No. 1’s ongoing efforts to reduce unaccounted-for water within its system and strengthen reliability. The investment will support the replacement of aging water lines at Kentucky River Park, the rehabilitation of multiple water storage tanks, and the replacement of several pump stations to ensure adequate water pressure throughout the system.
Because Estill County Water District No. 1 purchases all its water, reducing water loss is critical to maintaining a strong financial position and ensuring ratepayer dollars are used efficiently. These improvements will help safeguard access to clean, reliable water while supporting future growth and protecting essential infrastructure for residents and local businesses.
“Reliable water infrastructure is essential to public health, economic growth, and the long-term stability of Estill County,” said Congressman Barr. “I worked to secure this funding because reducing water loss and modernizing aging infrastructure will protect ratepayers and ensure families and businesses have dependable access to clean water.”
The project underscores ongoing efforts to invest in rural infrastructure, reduce waste, and ensure communities across Eastern Kentucky have the tools they need to grow and thrive.
“This funding is important for the families and businesses we serve,” said Judge/Executive Donnie Watson. “I’m thankful to Congressman Barr for helping us secure it. Replacing aging lines and improving our facilities will put us in a much better position moving forward.”
"This funding is a major win for Estill County and highlights the value of strong partnerships in addressing critical infrastructure needs. These improvements will reduce unaccounted-for water and strengthen the long-term efficiency of Estill County Water District No. 1. We thank Congressman Andy Barr for his support and appreciate the opportunity for BGADD to assist the Water District and Estill County in securing this investment to ensure reliable water service for residents and businesses in Estill County," said David Duttlinger, Executive Director of the Bluegrass Area Development District.
