WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Andy Barr today issued the following statement regarding President Obama's gun control proposals:

"As the father of a young daughter, I care deeply about doing everything we can to prevent another tragedy like the one we witnessed in Newtown, Connecticut last month. However, I'm not convinced that President Obama's proposals would either protect the American people from crime or safeguard the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens.  I remain committed to working toward real solutions that will realistically enhance school safety and improve the manner in which we identify and provide urgent assistance to individuals in need of mental health care services."
