Stanton, KY - On Tuesday, U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) announced $300,000 in federal funding from the Fiscal Year 2023 Community Project Funding process to Powell County. These funds were used to purchase three quick-attack fire trucks which are now stationed at the three volunteer fire departments in Stanton, Middlefork, and Clay City allowing closer access to hard to reach portions of the county that a big pumper truck cannot traverse.

"Powell County offers unique cabin-style lodging which plays a large economic role in the community and brings in a vast number of tourists. In the last five years, tourism in the area has increased over 300%, resulting in a critical need for accessible routes for emergency service providers," said Congressman Barr. "I am proud that this funding allows for multi-functional fire trucks to be added to Powell County's resources to respond to wrecks, search and rescues, and fires."

"Powell County Fire Departments received three quick attack trucks. The trucks will be used for wrecks, rescues, and most importantly, structure fires. We have some county roads that a normal fire truck cannot get to and these trucks can now provide protection to a lot of cabins and structures that before we couldn't," said Powell Co. Judge Executive Eddie Barnes. "Congressman Barr has always been a voice for Powell County, and we deeply appreciate him and his commitment to Powell County."
