Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) today met with Chairman Kevin Brady (TX-08) of the House Ways and Means Committee, UPS employees and Kentucky business leaders, including business leaders in the Sixth District, to discuss pro-growth tax reform at the UPS Worldport in Louisville, Kentucky.

It has been 31 years since the last tax overhaul by President Ronald Reagan.  Today, Congress is working to create a simpler, fairer tax code that lowers rates for all Americans and makes U.S. businesses and corporations more competitive.

“For too long, Americans have struggled to keep up with a complex tax code that is inefficient, wasteful, and distorts economic activity,” said Congressman Barr.  “In fact, according to the Tax Foundation, Americans spend over 8.9 billion hours and $99 billion complying with the tax code each year.  In addition, our broken worldwide tax system discourages American companies from bringing home over $2 trillion in investments and earnings overseas, which could be used to invest in our communities and our workers.”

Chairman Brady expressed appreciation for Congressman Barr’s strong leadership on tax reform and also spoke about how Republicans are working to lower the sky high corporate tax rate that discourages job creation and economic growth.

“We’re proposing to lower rates dramatically for every size business, whether you’re a UPS or you’re a mom and pop that you see that you stop by on your way home after work today,” said Chairman Brady. “And for a simple principle: we want you to send less money to Washington – we want you to invest more in your workers, in your business, in your future.”

“It was a pleasure to meet with these local job creators and Chairman Brady at the UPS Worldport today to discuss how pro-growth tax reform will significantly benefit Kentucky businesses and families,” said Congressman Barr. “Under Chairman Brady’s leadership, I am very optimistic that the House will move forward with a robust tax reform proposal that fundamentally restructures the U.S. tax code to grow our economy and create jobs.”
