Washington, D.C.– This week, Congressman Barr (KY-06) voted in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act which authorizes $886 billion for the Department of Defense and national security programs for fiscal year 2024. This vital legislation includes a 5.2% increase in servicemember pay (the highest pay raise in 22 years), addresses the needs of military families by improving housing and healthcare policies, bans drag shows and critical race theory in the military, provides critical support for Israel, and equips our military to counter Chinese, Russian, and Iranian threats to our national security.

Congressman Barr  proudly secured priorities for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District including a provision for the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) regarding the Feasibility Study for the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant in Madison County, Kentucky.

“I am proud to have secured language again this year in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act which builds upon the findings of the Blue Grass Army Depot Feasibility Study published earlier this year,” said Congressman Andy Barr. “The Depot plays a vital role in our national defense; I look forward to working with the local community in Madison County and federal stakeholders on opportunities for its bright future.”

“Madison County has much to celebrate this year. We can finally mark the end of chemical weapons sitting in our backyard at Blue Grass Army Depot. This achievement was a major milestone. As we work to identify plans for the Depot and its workforce in the future, I’m grateful to see this year’s national defense bill push forward this local and national imperative at record speed. I’m grateful for Congressman Barr’s advocacy on this matter, and I look forward to partnering with him to continue to support Madison County in the future,” said Madison County Judge/Executive Reagan Taylor
