WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) announced today that seven young men and women in the Sixth Congressional District that have received appointment offers to four of the United States Service Academies.

 “I am honored to recognize those who have committed to protect and defend our nation through service in our military academies,” said Congressman Barr. "Attending a U.S. service academy reflects their dedication to country and community. I congratulate these young leaders on their appointments and wish them the best in all their future pursuits. As a community, we thank these exceptional students and all those who answer the call to serve to serve in our military. It is an honor to have these students as representatives of Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District.”

Members of Congress may nominate a limited number of students each year to four of the five service academies. After nominations are submitted, each Service Academy selects which students will receive an appointment to attend. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
