Winchester, Kentucky— U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) announced a major, $1,570,000 federal grant to the Bluegrass Community and Technical College. This federal grant will increase the number of nurses in the BCTC program from 130 to 190. Additionally, the grant award will provide resources to double the number of credentialed biotechnologists graduating from BCTC and enhance training supplies across both programs. Congressman Barr secured these federal funds during the latest appropriations process.
“The nursing and BioTech programs at BCTC are key in addressing our nationwide shortages in both of these critical professions,” said Congressman Barr. “Right here in the Commonwealth, the Kentucky Hospital Association estimates that over 22% of nursing positions in the state remain vacant. BCTC is stepping up to the plate to help fill these voids with qualified, well-trained, and skilled professionals.”
“BCTC is immensely grateful for Congressman Andy Barr and his efforts to ensure that students, and in particular nurses, in our region will receive the highest-level of education that they deserve,” said Koffi Akakpo, PhD, president of BCTC. “Our campus will serve as a beacon of nursing education excellence, and we’re honored that our congressman recognizes that.”
