LEXINGTON – Congressman Andy Barr announced today that his office will host a Military Academy Day for Sixth District students interested in applying to one of the nation’s service academies.  The event will be held on Saturday, September 13th at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with registration beginning at 9:30 AM.

"Our nation's service academies not only provide a top notch education, they also prepare young men and women for leadership roles in our nation's armed forces," said Congressman Barr. "One of the greatest honors of serving as the Sixth District United States Congressman is the opportunity to nominate students from central and eastern Kentucky to attend these prestigious schools. I encourage all interested students to join me and representatives from each of the service academies for this informative event to learn more about how they can continue their leadership by serving our country in the Armed Forces.”

Members of Congress may nominate a limited number of students each year to four of the five service academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

This event is free for students and parents interested in learning more about America’s military academies, requirements for admission, and the congressional appointment process. High school and junior high students considering enrolling in a service academy or a career in the military should attend. Pre-registration is not required.

Congressman Barr and members of his staff will be joined by representatives from the five service academies, all of whom will be available to help answer questions.
