WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Barr today sent a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), urging that Congress and the White House stay in Washington until they come to an agreement on a more intelligent alternative to the across-the-board sequestration due to take effect March 1.
In today’s letter, Congressman Barr noted that on February 11 he urged that the House again take up legislation it passed twice last year to replace the sequester with “a more intelligent setting of priorities.” The Sixth District lawmaker states in today’s letter, “I continue to believe that better options exist, and that we should work to find a smarter way” to achieve the $85 billion in spending reductions which the sequester mandates.
Barr continued, “There is nothing I find more important or enjoyable than spending time in my District and meeting with constituents. However, listening to my constituents, it is clear they expect me to do the work necessary to find a responsible way to create savings [and] reduce the deficit . . . let us not adjourn until the work is done.”
