Lexington, KY – Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) proudly participated in a ceremony to unveil the new Breaking the Bronze Ceiling Monument in Lexington on Tuesday evening. In June of this year, the Blue Grass Community Foundation was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant in the amount of $20,000 to complete this project. The monument commemorates the centennial of the Women’s Suffrage movement and the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
“This is a great night for Lexington and the culmination of so much effort from our community that is truly inspiring,” said Congressman Barr. “I want to thank Councilmember Jennifer Mossotti and Councilmember Kathy Plomin for their leadership throughout this project. I was proud to join them and the entire Bronze Ceiling Steering Committee in supporting the NEA grant request that empowered this project to come to realization. I am especially looking forward to bringing my girls to visit this monument and teaching them about the hard work and perseverance shown by so many women throughout the suffrage movement.”
Congressman Barr wrote two letters of support to the NEA for the Breaking the Bronze Ceiling Project, including a joint letter with Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), in support of the monument. Congressman Barr is a also a cosponsor of Congresswoman Maloney’s legislation to establish a National Women’s History Museum as part of the Smithsonian.
