WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) announced today the City of Stanton received a $50,000 competitive federal grant from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development.

This grant from the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities program will be used to purchase law enforcement vehicles and help replace older, unreliable vehicles, which will assist the Stanton Police Department in continuing to provide effective and efficient emergency response in Powell County.

On behalf of their constituents, Senator McConnell and Congressman Barr proudly contacted USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue advocating for this federal investment in the City of Stanton.

“I’m constantly working to deliver for Kentucky, especially when it helps keep families safe,” said Senator McConnell. “Along with my friend Congressman Barr, I was proud to support the Stanton Police Department’s competitive grant application to bring federal resources to Powell County. As the only one of the four congressional leaders not from New York or California, I’m always looking out for Middle America and Kentucky in particular. I look forward to continuing to work with Chief Lacy and Stanton’s courageous officers to promote the highest standards as they serve this community.”

“I want to congratulate the Stanton Police Department and it’s officers for receiving these critical USDA grant awards,” said Congressman Barr. “These awards will strengthen the Stanton PD by equipping the Department with new police cruisers. I was happy to advocate for these grant requests by sending letters of support to the USDA and I know that the Department will use this award to continue serving our community and keeping us safe.”

“The City of Stanton Police Department is grateful for this opportunity on receiving a USDA Rural Development Grant this year. With this grant, it will allow the City of Stanton to purchase 3 new police style cruisers to better assist our officers in calls for services for the community,” said Stanton Police Department Chief Arthur Lacy. “After recently being assigned the School Resource Officer program for the Powell County School District, the need for these cruisers is even more needed as the positions that were created from this program were two entirely new positions. Public and school safety is the upmost of importance here at the City of Stanton and with this grant we can continue to improve on this. We would like to thank the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C. and the Morehead, Kentucky office.  We would also like to thank Senator McConnell and Congressman Barr for their continued efforts in helping the City of Stanton in procuring grants.”
