Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today released the following statement:

“Today, we are heartbroken to learn that Stephanie and Justin Shults are among the many lives cut short as a result of the barbaric terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium.  We will never forget this daughter of Kentucky, the anguish felt by her family, nor the evil that took her from us.  Through this tragedy, we stand more resolved than ever to confront and defeat the enemies of freedom, tolerance, and civilized society.

“Carol and I offer our deepest sympathies to the Shults and Moore families, their loved ones, and their many friends.  As the parents of two daughters, we extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

“I am grateful to all of those who assisted in the search for Stephanie and Justin and to get answers to their families.

“While we did not find the answers we hoped and prayed for, we are comforted this Easter weekend by the promise of eternal life through the love and sacrifice of the risen Christ.  I join all Kentuckians and Americans everywhere in continued thoughts and prayers for Justin and Stephanie Shults, their families, and the other victims of the Brussels attacks.”
