Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today announced he will support a bipartisan, bicameral agreement to renew and update Trade Promotion Authority (TPA). The proposal comes as the United States negotiates major trade agreements with Asia and Europe, which could open new markets for Kentucky products and support Kentucky jobs.
“Expanding trade and opening new markets to American exporters will create more opportunity and high paying jobs here in the United States,” said Congressman Barr. “It would be especially beneficial for Kentucky’s signature bourbon, coal, agriculture, and manufacturing industries.”
"Trade Promotion Authority will also hold trade negotiators accountable to Congress, ensuring the priorities of the American people are reflected in the negotiations. Accordingly, I am proud to support the agreement between Chairman Ryan and Senators Hatch and Wyden to establish Trade Promotion Authority, which will create an accountable, transparent process to strengthen the bargaining position of the United States in achieving free trade agreements.”
