Congressman Andy Barr released the below statement regarding his support for the Honoring our Promise to America’s Veterans Act:

"As the son of a Vietnam-era veteran and the grandson of a veteran of World War II’s Pacific theater, I was raised to respect our veterans and their service to our nation. It is absolutely unacceptable that the Senate Democrats refuse to compromise to fund veteran programs and are instead willing to risk delaying benefits earned by our brave veterans in order to make a partisan political point.  That is why tonight, I voted for legislation that would immediately restore funding for Department of Veterans Affairs activities and ensure that American veterans will continue to receive the most timely benefits and services, regardless of political bickering and gridlock. I have voted four times to prevent a shutdown, and in the spirit of Henry Clay, will continue to urge all sides to negotiate and compromise to reach a fair solution."

Veterans benefits are provided through appropriated mandatory funding  and that funding will run out by the end of October.  Absent a solution to fund the government, a variety of payments to veterans and their families that are due in November would be in jeopardy.
