Washington, D.C. — Tyler Staker, Communications Director for Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06), issued the following statement regarding the so-called public forum organized by “We Show Up” in Berea on April 29th:
"Congressman Andy Barr has always been accessible and accountable to the people of Kentucky. Tomorrow, he will be voting in Washington, D.C. and advancing legislation that benefits hardworking Kentuckians.
The official House calendar, publicly released in November 2024, makes it clear Members are in session this week. They were always going to be in session that week. Our staff made clear to the organizers on April 1 that Congressman Barr would be in Washington voting. Despite knowing this, they continued to disingenuously promote that he had been invited — pushing out event invites and misleading the public even after it was abundantly clear he could not attend. This is nothing more than a political stunt. The organizers of this so-called 'town hall' knew Congressman Barr would be fulfilling his legislative duties but chose to move forward anyway. Their goal was never honest dialogue — it was political theater.
Let’s be clear: this event is not about civic engagement. It’s a staged stunt, a media circus, and a desperate attempt to manufacture outrage.
Congressman Barr will continue to answer to the people of Kentucky — by voting to deliver results, meeting face-to-face during district work periods, and focusing on real solutions, not political sideshows."
