Versailles, KY — Today, U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06) announced a major, $1.4M federal grant to support critical infrastructure improvements in the City of Versailles. This funding was secured through the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Bill. Congressman Barr advocated for the inclusion of this funding in the bill and President Trump recently signed this bill into law.
The funding would be directed to the Versailles Road and Utility Infrastructure Project, a key initiative aimed at unlocking economic development and strengthening local transportation and utility systems. Currently, the site lacks adequate road access as well as essential water and wastewater infrastructure, making development difficult and limiting the area’s economic potential. These deficiencies pose a significant obstacle to the successful development of the planned Standardbred Training Facility, an investment expected to bring jobs, tourism, and long-term economic growth to the region.
“This project is about making smart, forward-looking investments in Versailles’ future,” said Congressman Barr. “I fought to secure this funding and ensured it was included in the latest America First funding bill. This investment will strengthen economic growth, attract new opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for the families who call Versailles home.”
The Versailles Road and Utility Infrastructure Project will enhance public safety, improve transportation efficiency, and create the foundation necessary for private investment. Local leaders have identified the project as a top priority due to its direct impact on economic development and community vitality.
“This funding is a significant win for the City of Versailles and Woodford County as it extends Paddock Drive across US 60 by creating turn lanes and road infrastructure at the former Edgewood Farm property,” said Versailles Mayor Laura Dake. “I want to thank Congressman Barr for his tireless advocacy in securing this $1.4 million through the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill. These improvements to our roads and utility infrastructure will remove barriers to economic development that will benefit our residents and community.”
“For years, this site’s lack of basic infrastructure has held back what could be a real economic engine for Woodford County,” said State Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe (R-KY-12). “This funding clears a major hurdle. Congressman Barr pushed this project through the THUD process and delivered resources that will finally allow Versailles to move forward with development that brings jobs, visitors, and lasting returns to the community.”
“This isn’t just about paving roads or running utility lines — it’s about making a project we’ve planned for a long time finally possible,” said State Representative Daniel Fister (R-KY-56), vice chair of the House Agriculture Committee. “I’m grateful to Congressman Barr for securing these funds and for recognizing that without access, water, and wastewater service, economic development just doesn’t happen. As vice chair of the House Agriculture Committee, I see this as a tremendous opportunity to bring agriculture, tourism, and economic development together in a way that respects our community’s traditions. This project puts Woodford County in a strong position to compete and grow.
