Nicholasville, Kentucky—Today, U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06) celebrated the announcement of a $2.4M federal grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to Alltech. Headquartered in Nicholasville for over five decades, Alltech currently employs hundreds of Kentuckians and is a leading company in the development of animal feed, meat, brewing, and distilling.
The federal grant from USDA comes from the Rural Business-Cooperative Service Fertilizer Production Expansion Program to support Alltech’s planned Science Expansion Project in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Alltech will now move forward with the construction of a new 15,000-square-foot facility that will produce more than 66,000 gallons of biological fertilizer products per month.
“Alltech is a global leader in agricultural innovation and the largest employer in the city of Nicholasville,” said Congressman Barr, who wrote a letter of support for the USDA grant application. “Expanding Alltech’s presence with this grant is a huge win for Jessamine County that wouldn’t have happened without the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Rollins always looking out for our Kentucky agriculture. I want to commend Dr. Mark Lyons and the Alltech team for working with us in a multi-year process to get this grant. So much work went into getting to the finish line, and now we have the resources to boost presence, production, and jobs in the region.”
“This USDA grant will support the growth of Alltech, a leading agribusiness in Jessamine County,” said Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell. “I’m grateful to Congressman Barr for championing this federal funding and to Secretary Rollins for her role in making it happen. I look forward to seeing the impact of this project once it’s complete.”
"This is an exciting grant announcement for Kentucky. President Trump and Secretary Brooke Rollins are committed to ushering in a new era of prosperity for rural America. Investments from USDA like this is how that happens. We appreciate the work of Alltech and our federal leaders for making this a reality," said Travis Burton, USDA RD State Director.
“We are grateful to Congressman Barr for his leadership in obtaining these grant funds for one of Jessamine County’s leading businesses,” said David West, Judge/Executive of Jessamine County. “Alltech is a wonderful part of our county and we are grateful that Jessamine and Central Ky is their home.”
“Alltech Crop Science’s expansion is a win for Kentucky agriculture and for the future of sustainable farming in America,” said Alex Carter, Mayor of Nicholasville. “This investment brings a new facility that will create good jobs, drive innovation, and provide our farmers with the tools they need to thrive. I’m proud to support a project that strengthens food security and promotes innovation right here in Nicholasville, Kentucky. I want to thank Congressman Barr for his work in securing this federal grant from the Administration.”
“We are proud to expand our presence here in Kentucky, where Alltech was founded and continues to thrive,” said Dr. Mark Lyons, president and CEO of Alltech. “Our deep expertise in microbial fermentation has revolutionized crop nutrition, delivering solutions that improve soil and plant health, activate plants’ natural defense systems, boost productivity and reduce agriculture’s environmental footprint. This investment in U.S. production scales the accessibility of our natural solutions, contributing to the long-term health of our soils, crops and ecosystems, and human nutrition and well-being.”
