Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) today voted for H.R. 4909, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017. The legislation corrects funding shortfalls that have resulted in a lack of military readiness and put our troops at increased risk. The bill increases the number of troops in each branch of the military and increases troop pay by 2.1 percent. Among other provisions, the bill also prevents the transfer of detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the United States.
“The most important responsibility I have as a Member of Congress is to advance the national security of the United States,” said Congressman Barr. “I am proud to vote for this legislation which helps the military improve readiness after years of devastating sequester-level funding cuts, and blocks the President’s plan to relocate terrorists to the United States from Guantanamo Bay. Importantly, this bill also gives our troops – who we depend on to defend our nation and our freedoms - a well-deserved pay increase.”
