Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) voted for legislation that passed the U.S. House of Representatives that would establish a zip code for the city of Camargo, Kentucky. Currently, Camargo’s zip codes overlap with the city of Mount Sterling. Creating a unique and individual zip code for Camargo will help pinpoint emergency response, mail delivery, and lower insurance premiums.
“I’ve been working with local leadership to secure legislation that would require the U.S. Postal Service to designate a unique zip code for the City of Camargo,” said Congressman Barr, who cosponsored and pushed for the City of Camargo to be included in this legislation, H.R. 3095. “By doing so, we will improve efficiencies in delivering public services to residents in the community. I urge the U.S. Senate to expeditiously approve this legislation so that Kentuckians in Camargo won’t have to wait any longer for this to be done.”
“Providing Camargo residents with their own zip code will support growth in our community and services for Kentuckians who live here,” said Chris Haddix, Judge/Executive of Montgomery County. “I want to thank our Congressman, Andy Barr, for his partnership with our leaders here in Montgomery County to accelerate this effort and put closer to the finish line.”
“This is a big win for small communities. For years, Camargo has shared a ZIP Code with a neighboring city, creating confusion in mail delivery, emergency services, insurance coverage, taxes, and even voter registration,” said Clayton Neal, Mayor of Camargo. “Thanks to the leadership of Congress and the support of Congressman Andy Barr, that’s about to change. A ZIP Code is more than just numbers; it’s about local identity and recognition. We are deeply thankful to Congressman Barr for standing up for the needs of his district and helping ensure that Camargo is no longer overlooked.”
