Mar 6, 2018
Press Release

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) today announced that the City of Frankfort will receive a $7.9 million grant through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant program for the Second Street Corridor Revitalization Project.

“After meeting with many local stakeholders, I was very impressed with the group’s dedication to boost economic development in the Commonwealth’s capital,” said Congressman Andy Barr. “The Second Street Corridor Revitalization Project will enhance the city’s infrastructure and promote a safer environment for the downtown area. I am pleased that my office was able to work with the City of Frankfort to make this important project a reality through the awarding of this competitive grant.  I want to thank all of the Frankfort community stakeholders and Mayor May for their dedication, and especially thank U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao for her leadership in recognizing the importance of this project to the Frankfort community.

Mayor of Frankfort, Bill May said, “I cannot begin to thank Congressman Barr and his staff for their support in making this project a priority. From the first phone call I had with Congressman Barr, he immediately offered his full support and has worked diligently ever since to assist and promote our efforts with the Kentucky delegation, including Leader McConnell and Senator Paul, and the Department of Transportation. This grant will make Second Street a safer passage for children going to and from school and is the first step in opening this corridor for redevelopment."

The TIGER grant program is administered through the Department of Transportation and appropriated by Congress.
