House votes to increase troop pay, secure borders, and improve national defense.

July 28, 2017

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) voted in favor of H.R. 3219, the Make America Secure Appropriations Act of 2018.  The legislation contains four of the twelve appropriations bills which must be passed by Congress before the end of the fiscal year on October 1, 2017.

“The Make America Secure Appropriations Act makes good on our promises to rebuild our military, secure our borders, and to take care of our troops,” said Congressman Barr.  “I am particularly pleased that the final bill included my amendment to expand the availability of evidence-based equine treatment for veterans who have suffered trauma while serving our country.  The legislation also funds the purchase of six new C-130 Model-J aircraft, something I have long fought for, and which could help replace aging aircraft for Kentucky’s Air National Guard.”

H.R. 3219 boosts base funding for the Department of Defense by $68.1 billion, a 13 percent increase over FY17 levels.  The bill fully funds a 2.4% pay raise for our troops, the largest military pay increase in 8 years.
