Barr Votes Against Senate Amendment to Bypass Conference Committee

Mar 3, 2015
Press Release

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) voted against a Senate amendment to a Department of Homeland Security funding bill.  Congressman Barr has voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security three times since January.  However, Senate Democrats blocked a conference committee, an important step in the legislative process that would have addressed differences between the House-passed bill and the Senate amendment.

“When there are differences between bills passed in the House and Senate, a conference committee is the appropriate way to resolve those differences,” said Congressman Barr.  “The American people want us to find solutions and they are tired of a minority of Senators who refuse to even attempt to find common ground.  I support a return to regular order and I take seriously my oath to support and defend the Constitution.  I am therefore unwilling to rubberstamp a Senate amendment which fails to address any of the serious concerns expressed by the House, a federal court and the President himself about his unconstitutional overreach.”
