Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s announced agreement with Iran:
“While Congress will have 60 days to review all of the details of this proposed agreement, I am troubled that nothing in the President’s statement today indicated that Iran will be prohibited from ultimately building a nuclear bomb, forced to fully dismantle their nuclear infrastructure, or subjected to the ‘anytime, anywhere’ inspections we were promised.”
“As a member of the Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financing, I am particularly concerned that the Obama Administration would lift sanctions on the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. Giving the Iranian regime access to billions of dollars in frozen assets will further destabilize the region and help finance their terrorist allies.”
“I’m further dismayed this agreement is not conditioned on the release of American hostages held by the Iranian government.”
“As the President has said himself throughout this process: no deal is better than a bad deal. I look forward to reviewing the agreement in full; however, the initial details to which I have access suggest this is a bad deal.”
