Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) has been named the Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade for the 115th Congress.  Among other issues, the subcommittee is responsible for oversight of the Federal Reserve System, as well as domestic and international monetary policy.

“I am honored and humbled to have the confidence of Chairman Hensarling and my colleagues to serve as Chairman of Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee,” said Congressman Barr.  “I look forward to continuing the important work of this subcommittee including vigorous oversight of the Federal Reserve to encourage a predictable and stable monetary policy that will provide certainty and economic growth for all Americans.”

The Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade has jurisdiction over legislation in the House pertaining to:

  • The impact of monetary policy on the economy, financial action on interest rates, the allocation of credit, and the structure and functioning of domestic financial institutions;
  • International trade;
  • International investment policies, both as they relate to the United States investments for trade purposes by citizens of the United States and investments made by all foreign entities in the United States;
  • The Export-Import Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank;
  • Coins, coinage, currency, and medals, including commemorative coins and medals, proof and mint sets and other special coins, and counterfeiting.
