Washington – Congressman Andy Barr released the following statement regarding President Obama’s “Climate Action Plan”:

“Despite being rejected several times over by the American people and even by his own Democrat Congress, President Obama continues to prioritize his own radical energy rationing agenda over the interests of the American people.  While his ‘climate adviser’ believes ‘a war on coal is exactly what’s needed,’ Kentuckians know that bankrupting our coal industry through repackaged cap-and-trade policies will devastate Kentucky families and cost Kentucky jobs we can’t afford to lose.  For the sake of Kentucky jobs, families, and small businesses, I will continue to fight for American energy freedom and against President Obama’s War on Coal.”

As a member of the Congressional Coal Caucus and original cosponsor of the Coal Jobs Protection Act, Congressman Barr recently led members of the Kentucky delegation in writing a letter to President Obama in opposition to the proposed EPA rule that would effectively ban new coal-fired power plants from being built.  The rule would also prevent existing plants from making upgrades to improve efficiency, threatening both jobs and affordable utility rates.
