Barr Statement on the March Jobs Report

"Today's jobs report is not only disappointing - it is not surprising." For Immediate Release: April 5, 2013

LEXINGTON – Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) released the following statement regarding the March jobs report:

"Today's jobs report is not only disappointing - it is not surprising.  For years, President Obama and his Administration have pursued an extremist agenda that is actually costing Kentucky jobs instead of working together to find common sense solutions that will put our nation on a path to economic growth.

"Just this week, we are seeing the disastrous results of the Obama Administration's War On Coal as coal production dropped to the lowest levels seen in 47 years.  According to the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, there was a 27 percent decline in on-site employment at coal mines here in eastern Kentucky last year.  At a time when job creation should be our number one priority, we are losing 3,500 good paying jobs that support our communities and create countless economic benefits.

"We need to be focused on economic growth, and yet the President is fixated on a counterproductive plan to again increase taxes by hundreds of billions of dollars.  It is time to start working together on common sense solutions to get our financial house in order, our economy back on track and Kentuckians back to work."
