Congressional Update from U.S. Congressman Andy Barr

My ESG Bill Headed to Biden’s Desk Image

On Thursday, I participated in a bill signing ceremony with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Majority Leader Steve Scalise to officially send my legislation protecting Americans who are saving for retirement to President Biden’s desk.

Congress passed my legislation blocking the U.S. Department of Labor’s recent rule greenlighting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing in employer-sponsored retirement plans.  I am grateful to Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball and Sixth District residents Charlie Masters and Adam Hinton, both of Fleming County, for attending the event.  You can watch the full bill signing ceremony and press conference by clicking the image above or by clicking here

Holding the Administration Accountable on Afghanistan

This week, the House Foreign Affairs Committee held our first hearing on the Afghanistan withdrawal.  We will hold this Administration accountable for their disastrous, deadly, and humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of thirteen brave American servicemembers as well as the stranding of countless American citizens and Afghan allies behind enemy lines.

At the hearing, I read a letter written to me by a U.S. Marine from the Sixth District who served on the ground during the Afghanistan withdrawal.  His letter is eloquent, powerful, and painful to read.  You can listen to me read part of his letter into the record by clicking the image above and you can read his letter in full by clicking here

We must honor our servicemembers by demanding changes to the leadership that failed them.  That’s why I was the first member of Congress to call on the President’s national security team to resign.  It’s shameful that they still remain in their positions.

Confronting the Chinese Communist Party Threat

Every Kentuckian saw the real threat the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses to our country earlier this year when multiple spy balloons transported across large portions of the United States.  These balloons were a danger to commercial air travel and flew across several sensitive military sites, including Fort Campbell.  That’s why the work I am doing on the bipartisan House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and Chinese Communist Party is so important.

Recently, we held our first Committee hearing.  I look forward to addressing the CCP’s rampant theft of intellectual property, human rights abuses, and making sure that U.S. investors are not unknowingly fueling CCP military, surveillance, and technology companies.  After the hearing, I joined Laura Ingraham on Fox News to discuss the Committee and the challenges we face.  You can see that full clip by clicking the image above or by clicking here.

Sincerely,
