WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) today offered an amendment to H.R. 1500, the Consumers First Act, which would grant the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) the statutory authority to assist the Department of Defense with supervising financial institutions to ensure they comply with the Military Lending Act (MLA).

Congressman Barr spoke on the amendment during debate of H.R. 1500, addressing the need to protect our service members and their families from inappropriate or usurious financial fees.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee unanimously passed legislation introduced by Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) to ensure that student veterans have access to the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM scholarship program that was enacted as part of the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017, also known as the Forever GI Bill.

This week, the House Republican Steering Committee for the 116th Congress selected Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) to serve on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.  The Committee has jurisdiction over the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and is responsible for overseeing the operations of the VA and recommending legislation to better provide for veterans’ benefits.  Congressman Barr will also remain a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, on which he has served since 2013.

Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) this week introduced bipartisan legislation, the Forever GI Bill Housing Payment Fulfillment Act, to ensure the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) properly and retroactively pays student veterans with the educational housing benefits they have earned.

Nationwide, there are more than 150,000 veterans seeking help for mental health issues and post-traumatic stress disorder per year. Today, Life Adventure Center, a not-for-profit in Woodford County, received a $25,350 grant through the Department of Veterans Affairs Adaptive Sports Grant (ASG) Program to expand its evidence-based equine-assisted therapy services for Kentucky’s veterans.

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3642, the Military Sexual Assault Victim Empowerment Act, also known as the Military SAVE Act, introduced by Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06). This legislation would give survivors of military sexual trauma (MST) the ability to seek treatment from a community health care provider of their choice and would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to identify deficiencies in its treatment process to improve its care for these survivors through a three-year pilot program.

H.R. 4533, legislation introduced by Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) was passed tonight by the United States Senate.  The bill which would rename the two campuses of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Lexington to honor two Kentucky heroes passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday and now heads to President Trump’s desk for signature.  The legislation will rename the VA health care facility on Veterans Drive in Lexington as the Troy Bowling Campus, and the facility on Leestown Road as the Franklin R. Sousley Campus.

The office of Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) is seeking a wounded warrior or medically retired veteran for a paid fellowship in his Lexington office.  The position is sponsored by and will be hired through the U.S. House of Representatives Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program.
