Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) led a moment of silence honoring Stephanie and Justin Shults who were killed in the terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium on March 22, 2016.  Stephanie Moore Shults is a native of Lexington and a graduate of Bryan Station High School and Transylvania University.

Congressman Barr was joined by Congressman Phil Roe (TN-01) and Congressman Jim Cooper (TN-05).  

Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today voted for H.R. 3662, the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act.  The bill provides for enhanced Congressional oversight over U.S. economic and trade sanctions, particularly over Iranian terrorism financiers.

Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today made the following statement after the President’s State of the Union Address:

“What the country needs is a plan to defeat ISIS.  What we need is an agenda to grow the economy.  Instead, President Obama gave us a lecture about his legacy and in defense of policies that have contributed to the worst economic recovery since World War II and chaos around the world.  Families continue to struggle and there is not a single place in the world which is safer or more stable today than on the day President Obama took office seven years ago.”

Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today voted for H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act.  The bipartisan legislation makes reforms to the Visa Waiver Program in light of recent terrorist attacks and concerns that security gaps in the program could make it easier for foreign fighters and terrorists to enter the United States. 

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) voted today in favor of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act.  The legislation immediately suspends President Obama’s plan to resettle Syrian refugees in the United States, and requires enhanced, comprehensive security checks and certifications before additional refugees from Iraq and Syria may be allowed to enter the country.

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) today voted for H.R. 1314, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015.

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) announced Saturday that he participated in a visit to Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Afghanistan led by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Barr and McConnell were joined on the trip by U.S. Sens Tom Cotton (R-AR), Mike Rounds (R-SD), and Joni Ernst (R-IA). 

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) today honored the life and service of Captain Matthew D. Roland of Lexington who was killed while serving in Afghanistan on August 26, 2015.  Roland was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and the United States Airforce Academy.  He served as an officer in the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron.

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) today voted for H.R. 3457, the Justice for Victims of Iranian Terrorism Act.  The bill holds Iran accountable by requiring them to pay court-ordered compensation to victims of its state-sponsored terrorism before economic sanctions are lifted on the regime as part of the proposed nuclear agreement. 

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) honored the life of Kentucky State Trooper Eric K. Chrisman of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Trooper Chrisman died while on duty on June 23, 2015.
