Congressman Andy Barr and Eastern Kentucky University President Michael Benson announced a $1 million grant at EKU's 2013 Welcome Back Student Veterans Picnic hosted by the Office of Military and Veteran Affairs and the EKU VETS Club. 
This grant was awarded through a competitive process to provide services to very low-income veteran families living in -- or transitioning to -- permanent housing. The SSVF program supports VA's efforts to prevent at-risk Veterans from becoming homeless and rapidly re-house those who have recently fallen into homelessness.  

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Barr announced today that his office will host a Military Academy Day for Sixth District students interested in applying to one of the nation’s service academies.  The event will be held on Saturday, September 7th at the The Aviation Museum of Kentucky from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with registration beginning at 8:30 AM.

“Today, I was glad to support a bipartisan, permanent solution that provides more certainty and stability to students and their families. This important reform is a victory for students and taxpayers as it takes the decisions on student loan interest rates out of the hands of politicians and makes it less expensive for students to borrow money for classes, housing and books."
As a father of two young girls, I am committed to ensuring that all our of children have the opportunity to succeed. That’s why I voted to get Washington bureaucrats out of Kentucky’s classrooms and empower local communities to fix our broken education system.
In May, Congressman Barr voted for the Smarter Solutions for Students Act, House-passed legislation which would have taken immediate action to prevent student loan rates from increasing unnecessarily.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Andy Barr today announced the launch of his newly re-designed congressional website, www.Barr.House.Gov.  This new "Online Office" will serve as an interactive and informative resource for Congressman Barr’s constituents.
