Washington - Congressman Andy Barr released the following statement on H.R. 2642, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act, which passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 216-208:

“A strong agriculture sector is vital to commerce and jobs in the Sixth District, which is why today, I again voted for the FARRM Bill.  This legislation will provide critical certainty to the agricultural community in central and eastern Kentucky.

“Among other regulatory relief measures, this legislation includes my amendment requiring the Risk Management Agency to give farmers adequate notice prior to making any changes to requirements in existing crop insurance policies.

“I am also glad that this bill offers the best opportunity to advance research of industrial hemp by taking a deliberate and critical first step to allow Kentucky the authority to move forward with controlled and studied cultivation of industrial hemp.”
